Send me to Siberia (Please)!

Posted on September 3, 2011

People are asking me “Darrell, why are you going to Siberia? In December?”

It’s a valid question.  The average temperature  in Khabarovsk, where we are going is  minus 20 degrees centigrade.

It just so happens that December 14th is the 70th birthday of renowned jazz saxophonist Vyacheslav Zakharov, recipient of Russia’s highest musical honor: the “People’s Artist of Russia.” There will be a city-wide celebration and we have been invited to be a part of it.

This is an honor and an occasion not to be missed. So despite the snow and cold, and the fact the Khabarovsk s is beautiful in spring, we will be flying to Siberia in early December armed with instruments, goodwill and warm hats.
